Ultragenyx is looking for a Senior Global Payroll Specialist, reporting to the Director of Global Payroll, to join our payroll team. The Senior Global Payroll Specialist, working in a team environment, is responsible for supporting the company’s domestic and international payroll systems and processes. This role helps to ensure compliance with local labor laws, tax regulations, and internal policies, as they relate to payroll, including equity compensation impacts. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of California, U.S. multi-state tax implications, and global payroll processing. Work Model:
Flex: This role will typically require onsite work 2-3 days each week, or more depending on business needs. In many locations, the business will set certain days each week that Flex employees are required to be onsite.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strong support and knowledge of U.S. multi-state and international payroll
- Develop working relationships with service providers and People Operations team to ensure integrity of data and system setup. Identify process and system weaknesses and propose enhancements to help ensure accuracy of processing of payroll for all Ultragenyx legal entities
- Work closely with business leaders to enhance payroll operational standards and internal controls in compliance with SOX standards
- Assist in developing global payroll goals, pay practices, and processes to ensure compliance, efficiency, and standardization across legal entities globally
- Work closely with Stock Administration team to manage employee and employer income and tax reporting related to stock (equity) transactions
- Work closely with the Global team and service provider to manage employee globalization initiatives and ensure proper treatment of reportable benefits for tax equalized employees
- Participate in month and quarter-end close activities, including, but not limited to, preparation or review of payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations and auditor-required items
- Work with service providers and People (HR) Operations team to ensure accurate calculations in the system of payroll-related accruals
- Other projects and responsibilities, as needed
Requirements:
- Minimum of five plus years of industry experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or similar fields or equivalent years of experience
- Experience with U.S. Federal & multi-state payroll taxes, general ledger, equity payroll and compliance
- Experience with equity-based compensation preferred
- Strong working knowledge with payroll software, PEO or HRIS
- Certified Payroll Professional preferred
- Global payroll experience preferred
- UKG (UltiPro & Workforce Management) experience is a plus #LI-CS1 #LI-Hybrid
The typical annual salary range for this full-time position is listed below. This range reflects the characteristics of the job, such as required skills and qualifications and is based on the office location noted in this job posting. The range may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This position is eligible for annual bonus and equity incentives. Actual individual pay is determined by demonstrated experience and internal equity alignment.
