Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Welder Combination Precision to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.
Position Summary:
Performs GTAW welding processes on Titanium, Stainless, Inconel, and Aluminum tubes down to 0.025 thicknesses to required specifications. Must be flexible and willing to perform assembly fit-ups when necessary to support department priorities. Orbital Welding in and out of Weld chamber a plus. Skilled in operating in a wide range of shop welding tools such as Grinders, Bandsaw and Plasma Cutters. Working with others to achieve daily production targets and following directions well is vital for this position. Candidate will be responsible for safety, quality, and productivity when performing work in this role. Producing product with high yield at sound production efficiency levels is expected from this position.
This occupation requires certified fusion welding of company products in compliance with the most rigid customer and engineering specifications and requirements using welding processes set forth below.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Must, in order to qualify for this classification, perform highly skilled certified welding of product parts, assemblies and tooling which must pass the most rigid customer and engineering specifications and requirements. Characteristic of this classification is the
performance of welding of the complexity set forth herein of any types of metal on all surfaces (including overhead, horizontal, vertical and circular) where the nature of the work requires using, frequently and with consistent regularity, two or more of the following welding processes as a normal assignment gas, inert gas arc and metal arc. Perform fusion welding which requires continuous application of a high degree of mental concentration, sensory alertness and manual coordination to create welds and welded assemblies which must be held within precise dimensional tolerances and the most rigid specifications. Weld various types of metal and alloys together involving the more difficult types of welding and requiring a sound weld and uniform penetration as well as holding critical alignment tolerances which are difficult to maintain due to varying degrees of metal thicknesses and dissimilar melting temperatures at point of weld, such as: Applying dry ice or water coolant to critical areas to control melting temperatures and to minimize distortion, and welding parts or assemblies in "hot boxes" while they are being subjected to high temperatures where a minimum degree of heat must be maintained at all times to obtain a satisfactory weld and to minimize distortion. Weld reactive types of metals together in a sealed changer where, due to equipment problems, the distribution of inert gases and/or vacuum requirements are difficult to maintain to prevent excessive oxidation of materials. Weld structural assemblies, pressure vessels or mechanisms which are subjected to extreme stress and/or critical pressures where special care and skill must be applied to avoid unsatisfactory weldments and parent metal conditions which cannot be satisfactorily inspected or repaired and could contribute to the operational failure of the product.
Basic Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED and 5 years welding experience
• Experience in welding Titanium, Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Inconel (all 4 of these alloys)
• Experience in welding to tig, manual weld, turntable welding, and chamber welding,
• Mathematics including decimals and fractions experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Orbital welding experience
• Welding Cert AWS D17.1
• Must be able/willing to work any shift or schedule
Salary Range: $59,280 - $96,325
