National Grid is hiring a Associate Estimator for our Gas Estimating department in Waltham, MA. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations.
Gas Estimating plays a critical role in shaping National Grid's short- and long-term capital budgets for the core lines of business within the US. By working closely with numerous other departments, including Engineering, Project Management, and Construction, our highly collaborative team develops detailed estimates. Our unique position within the business allows us to participate as core project team members in challenging and interesting capital projects. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our performance through team-developed department initiatives, as well as through the analysis of actual spending compared to our estimates upon project completion.
Job Purpose
This position is one of National Grid's career path roles, which provides promotional opportunities within and across salary bands as you develop and evolve in the role by gaining experience, expertise, and acquiring and applying technical skills.
The Associate Estimator will prepare accurate, and timely construction estimates for large-scale construction projects with the guidance of other estimators. Estimates will include all aspects of a project, including materials, engineering, permitting, environmental compliance, construction, labor, and equipment.
Key Accountabilities
* Prepare accurate and timely construction estimates based on engineering designs, drawings, site visits, contractual agreements, materials, permitting, environmental, construction labor, and equipment. Develop solid understanding of the utility construction process and apply to estimates.
* Assist other estimators with estimates learn estimating best practices
* Review project scope and coordinate with the team to confirm complete scope.
* Build effective relationships with Construction, Operations, Engineering, Resource Planning, and additional stakeholders to improve estimate quality.
* Assist with analysis of past performance on projects and establish estimating standards for all future estimates based on this analysis
* Review standard work best practices through National Grid procedures
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Project Management, or equivalent related work experience.
* knowledge of estimating methodologies and practices
* Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
* Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
* Ability to excel while working to tight deadlines.
* Ability to be coached by other team members
* Willingness to work on other duties, as assigned.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
* Gas utility experience preferred
