The Senior Associate Director of Clinical Educators is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) Therapeutic Area (TA) Clinical Educators within defined regions. This position includes the development and implementation of the TA Clinical Educator business and educational plan within BIPI guidelines, policies and directives. The Senior Associate Director of Clinical Educators has an in-depth working knowledge of the Oncology multidisciplinary team with a focus on Advance Practice Clinicians, nursing and support staff markets across the continental US. This role will maximize the use of key company TA resources to address unmet educational needs. The Senior Associate Director of Clinical Educators will also ensure equal and consistent application of established policies and procedures in the management of employees to meet or exceed respective goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Recruits, leads, and develops a staff of Oncology Clinical Educators to educate patients, care partners, consumers, advocacy partners, Oncology support staff, and other HCPs on disease state and Boehringer Oncology products.
- Collaborates closely with Director of Clinical Educators, Sales & Marketing Leaders, Director of PARD, Trade Operations, and other TA stakeholders to coordinate national resources to support educational goals.
- Manages Oncology Clinical Educators to a high level of productivity. Manages fiscal resources to within 2% of assigned budgets.
- Identifies and develops top Clinical Educator talent.
- Defines clear objectives, allocates resources, provides development opportunities and conducts ongoing performance reviews.
- Ensures Oncology Clinical Educator team is staffed with qualified, highly motivated personnel and contributes to building a positive culture within the BU.
- Serves in the player/coach role as needed to ensure optimal educational coverage of assigned region.
- Encourages direct reports to own their careers and take full advantage of BI career development offerings.
- Drives performance management of all personnel in the region including all disciplinary action to ensure personnel are meeting expectations in their roles.
- Spends appropriate amount of time cultivating and maintaining relationships with relevant TA customers, networks and stakeholders to understand customer needs.
- Actively anticipates shifts across the marketplace.
- Responds to the needs of the customer in a timely and professional manner.
- Utilizes appropriate data sources to assist in the development of the Oncology national and regional educational plans.
- Attends management and marketing meetings to recommend Oncology support staff needs and product strategies to ensure that Clinical Educators have the tools needed to provide educational programming to address unmet educational needs across the marketplace and increase our market penetration.
- Evaluates opportunities to expand the education on our brands beyond support staff to Advanced Practice Clinicians, and other Oncology multidisciplinary team members.
- Provides feedback to senior management on the effectiveness and results of policies, strategies, and procedures within the Nursing and support staff sector.
- Executes a process for implementation and quarterly measurement of the Oncology nursing and support staff plan in the region.
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and updating strategic educational business plans to include patient, HCP and advocacy engagements.
- Supports the BI relationship with professional society leadership.
- Monitors clinical environment and has in-depth understanding of the processes and mechanisms for influencing treatment pathways and clinical practice guidelines through Local, Regional and National development committees.
- Understands the process and coordinates educational resources to appropriately support Oncology treatment guidelines and care pathways that impact BI brands.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; Nursing/Pharmacy/OncologyTherapy or related clinical Degree, MBA degree preferred.
- Active clinical license required.
- A minimum of seven (7) years successful pharmaceutical experience.
- Minimum one (1) years leading a team in specific Oncology (preferred) or similar specialty care experience; or completion of BI Management Development Programs.
- Excellent communications, objective setting, and influencing skills.
- Ability to travel in the US including overnight travel, approximately 50%, or more, depending on geography.
- Residency in the region is required.
- Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and other relevant applications.
- In depth understanding and proven experience in driving commercial success in the Oncology market is a plus.
- Success operating within a matrix environment where direct reports and their constituents are interdependent on others' engagement with customer universe.

Compensation Data
This position offers a base salary typically between $130,000 and $220,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits please click here.
