Position: Writer-Editor, GS-12/13

Working Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (flexible)

Salary: GS-12 $99,200.00-$128,956.00

 GS-13 $117,962.00-$153,354.00

Full Performance level: GS-13

Mission Statement:

The mission of the FBI is to protect the American People and uphold the Constitution of the United States.

Major Duties:

GS-12:

  • Provide specialized and authoritative guidance on any written material requested for the Director.
  • Serve as proofreader for all of the Director’s correspondence.
  • Produce complex written correspondence utilizing exceptional editing abilities to formulate a professional product.

GS-13, in addition to above:

  • Communicates with both internal and external parties to verify information, clarify text, obtain support documentation, and coordinate delivery of finished product.
  • Reviews current correspondence/certificate templates to look for areas needing improvement.


Qualifications and Evaluations

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Experience editing and writing complex material, ensuring final work products are highly readable, clear, and meets professional standards.
  • Experience applying editorial language and style theories and practices, in order to edit articles/documents to conform to accepted standards in language, style, and publishing methods.
  • Experience interpreting the results of highly complicated, potentially controversial, and important policies.
  • Experience communicating, planning, organizing, and creating communications and collateral products for specific initiatives. 

GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Experience gathering, developing, and checking the accuracy of information using a variety of internal and external sources.

  • Memorandum for Record: Work performed outside assigned duties (that would not normally be documented on an SF-50, i. e., back-up duties), has to be documented in detail by an immediate supervisor in order to receive full credit for amount of time worked in that position. If no documentation is furnished no credit will be given for time worked in that position. The following notations must be specified in the documentation (Memorandum for Record):

        a. Percent of time worked in the particular position (cannot conflict with main duties)
        b. The month/year work began
        c. Frequency worked (i.e., daily, monthly, etc.)
        d. Specific duties performed
