University of Washington - Assistant Professor WOT - Vascular Surgeon
Full Job Description

The Division of Vascular Surgery, Department of Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure). This position will have an annual service period of 12 months (July 1 June 30). Appointments as Assistant Professor WOT are normally structured per University guidelines as two consecutive 3-year terms followed by promotion to Associate Professor WOT. Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12 month service period (July 1 June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This full-time, 12-month service period position will be located both at Harborview Medical Center (HMC) and the University of Washington Medical Center-Northwest (UWMC-NW). The salary and rank will be commensurate with applicants training, qualifications, and experience, with an expected start date in Summer or Fall 2025.

The position will have an equal split clinical deployment at HMC and UWMC-NW with clinical responsibilities that include a wide range of evaluation, consultation and surgical treatment services for adult vascular surgery patients. This position will take a full complement of system call covering Harborview Medical Center, UWMC Montlake and Northwest Campuses.

The Vascular Surgery practice at HMC and UWMC-NW is diverse. The clinical responsibilities for this position include:

  1. Complex Open and Endovascular Aortic Procedures for Aneurysm, Dissection, Trauma, and Infection Vascular Trauma Dialysis Access Limb Preservation; both open and endovascular procedures Vascular Access Intra-operative Vascular Emergencies Carotid Venous-Superficial and Complex deep recanalization

In addition to clinical practice the position will participate in the education of surgical residents and medical students. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an area of scholarly expertise, as expected of every faculty member, in consultation with the Division and Section Chiefs. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

At the rank of Assistant Professor (WOT), the base salary range for this position will be: $29,167- $32,500 per month ($350,004 - $390,000 annually). Base salaries at all ranks will be commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position may include variable incentive through UWP. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Prospective candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • MD degree (or foreign equivalent)
  • Eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington
  • Board-certified or eligible to achieve certification by the American Board of Surgery in vascular and endovascular surgery (or foreign equivalent) by July 1, 2025.
  • In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
