Department Summary

The mission of the Department of Student Success & Equity Interventions is to work collaboratively with colleagues' campus-wide to close and eliminate educational equity gaps through effective data-informed equity-minded interventions. Successful candidates will be staff members with commitment to and experience in working with first generation, Black/Cape Verdean, Latine, Native American, Asian, multi-racial, and other Students of Color, and/or members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and/or low-income students as well as students from other historically underserved students in closing educational equity gaps through data informed equity-oriented practices.

Position Summary

The BSU Success Program Navigator will serve students with a GPA between 2.0 and 2.6 and other students at risk of non-persistence as a source of holistic support to help students successfully navigate their educational journey. This role involves providing guidance, support, and personalized interventions to these students in order to enhance their retention, persistence and graduation from Bridgewater State University. The BSU Success Navigator will work closely with students, faculty, librarians and staff members to build on students' strengths and to identify obstacles to success by creating and partnering with students to implement tailored student success action plans helping to ensure that students have access to the resources and student success competencies they need to thrive.

This is an APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement. This is a full-time, grant funded position with funding secured through June 30, 2027. An extension of the position is anticipated at the conclusion of the grant, but will be contingent upon funding.

Essential Duties

* Provide one-on-one support to students with an overall high school GPA between 2.0 and 2.6 and other students at risk of non-persistence, offering strategies for retention and overall success.
* Implement effective retention programs and early outreach plans to enhance persistence and completion rates.
* Monitor student progress and intervene when necessary to keep students on track for success.
* Identify additional support resources, including tutoring, counseling, and time management workshops. Make referrals to appropriate campus resources as needed to address academic and financial challenges.
* Work collaboratively with offices across the university, faculty, librarians, advisors, and other staff members to monitor and assist students in resolving issues that may affect student retention, persistence, and graduation.
* Plan, coordinate and facilitate group workshops focused on student success skills.
* Provide students with opportunities to learn from peers and share strategies for success.
* Assesses and makes recommendations for improvements to enhance the effectiveness of persistence and completion of the program.
* Consult on implementation and enhancement of policy and process, analyze data and generate information to identify barriers to retention and progression.
* Maintain accurate records of student interactions and track progress towards student success goals.
* Provide periodic reports on student outcomes to the Interim Assistant Director of BSU Success Program and Executive Director of Student Success, Equity and Interventions.
* Foster a positive, encouraging environment for students, helping them stay motivated and confident in their ability to improve their academic standing.
* Other duties as assigned to support the success of students attending BSU.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree
* 3 years experience in working with students experiencing disparate student outcomes. Candidates with experience working in organizations outside of higher education encouraged to share in their materials how their experience prepares them to fulfill the job responsibilities.
* Experience completing assessment-oriented reports designed to inform decision-making.
* Knowledge of higher education equity-oriented student success best practices.
* Experience with data-informed decision-making and practice.
* Demonstrated experience in the field of first year retention or in student completion/graduation efforts.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
* Some evening and weekend work required.
* Experience working collaboratively within and/or with a large organization engaged in racial equity and justice efforts and equity-minded student success.
