Description
Lobby and advocate BIs positions on public policy issues at the state level with legislators, governors, government officials and other stakeholders. Represent Boehringer Ingelheim and our interests with elected officials, government stakeholders, trade associations, coalitions, and in legislative forums in state capitols. Provide insights regarding political dynamics, legislative and regulatory developments to internal customers. This position offers a base salary typically between $180,000 and $225,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus, relocation and or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits please click here.Duties & Responsibilities
- Lobby state legislators, staff, committees, health departments, other government officials, and governors to advance BI's legislative and regulatory positions. Mitigate and improve proposals targeting BI and the pharmaceutical industry.
- Advance BI proprietary issues and proposals related to our therapeutic areas. Develop strategies for identifying audiences and coalitions to support these initiatives.
- Encourage adoption of BI policy positions by industry trade groups (e.g., PhRMA, BIO), advocacy organizations and other third parties. Leverage their lobbying and influence to advance our priorities. Share insights on government programs and legislation with internal customers.
- Identify legislative and regulatory issues that will impact BI and our businesses. Provide insights to internal customers and departments regarding emerging proposals to enhance strategic planning and prepare for changes stemming from the government.
- Performs company business in such a manner as to comply with those laws and company policies which prohibit discrimination and adhere to any federal, state and local rules as applicable.
- Territory includes North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution required.
- A minimum of seven-plus (7+) years of experience in government relations.
- Experience lobbying elected officials and staff in state government.
- Experience identifying legislative issues and assessing impact on pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience with projects supporting business objectives.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry and related public policy issues is required.
- Requires advanced knowledge of state government affairs and public policy, including government relations.
- Requires advanced communication skills, influencing skills, business acumen, and ability to provide strategic advice to colleagues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and changing legislation, regulations, and the impact to BI.
- Influencing and persuasion skills to successfully advocate our positions externally.
- Analytical skills to understand key components of legislation and the potential effect on BI and the industry.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must live in North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida or Texas
