Description
This is varied skill work at the journeyman level in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning, and general maintenance. The person in this position presents a positive image of Facilities to the college.
Examples of Duties

- Performs minor structural work in renovation and repair of educational facilities.
- Works to current codes in general maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, electrical troubleshooting and repair, and minor carpentry work.
- Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communications, power circuits, and equipment. Isolates defects using a variety of testing instruments.
- Troubleshoots and repairs plumbing systems, repairs fire and smoke barriers to code.
- Competently uses the computerized energy management systems to program environmental controls in support of the use patterns on two sites.
- Able to field troubleshoot the environmental controls system as needed including local programming, balancing systems, and validating operation to specification.
- Required to do furniture moving, assembly set ups, and office relocations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical maintenance and air conditioning. Good working knowledge of fire and building codes relevant to educational facilities. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions required in general maintenance work. Knowledgeable in OSHA, EPA and other state and federal regulations and able to maintain safely orientated programs. Ability to read blueprints, sketches, or drawings for specifications of work to be done. Able to drive a manual transmission vehicle. Ability to speak, read and write English and convey ideas effectively and understandably to staff not technically oriented. Skill in the use of a variety of tools, material and equipment used in troubleshooting and repair.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School equivalency diploma (GED) from the State Department of Education may be substituted for High School Diploma. Two years of journeyman-level experience in general maintenance work in one or more skilled trades. Computer literate.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Post secondary training resulting in either AAS or Certificate in a program strongly considered. Current licensure in water treatment, boiler operator, or gas transmission systems is highly desirable. A commercial driver's license is also preferred. State recognized journeyman certificates in related trades are also valuable.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Works inside and outside in various weather conditions; heights (up to 40 feet); with electrical energy, in or with moving objects, with chemicals, solvents, fumes, gases, grease and oils.
