Job Summary

Senior Credit Manager responsible for several corporate industry verticals in SCB New York, including oil and gas, industrials, trade transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Appraise and contribute to the development of the Bank's strategic plans and alignment with risk appetite and risk tolerance through active participation in the various committees and forums
  • Align strategy of CIB with business strategy and risk appetite and tolerance and oversee its execution
  • Identify measure and monitor material risk affecting the CIB portfolios in the context of the external market environment.
  • Ensure that the quality of Business Credit Applications (BCAs) and Group Mandates (GMs) meets Group standards, particularly with regards to the completeness and depth of risk analysis.
  • Approve BCAs/GMs that fall within delegated authorities and review/support BCAs/GMs that require the approval of more senior credit officers, where appropriate.
  • Ensure effective management of the operational risks within the Function and compliance with applicableinternal policies, and external laws and regulations.
  • Continuously improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Function's risk managementprocesses.

Risk Management

  • Assess the credit risk profile of the CIB portfolio in the Americas, maintaining alignment with risk appetite by rebalancing of risks or controls that may be required in response to internal and external factors
  • Initiate stress tests as required by internal and external factors and review results and assess their implications
  • Proactively manage the Portfolio, ensuring accounts that exhibit deteriorating credit profiles are identified early and escalated to management via the Early Alert (EA) Process and in need work closely with Group Special Asset Management (GSAM) to reduce and mitigate risk to avoid credit losses.
  • Ensure appropriate legal documentation support structures to mitigate risk.
  • Direct appropriate response to material events or other risk issues that come to SCM's attention
  • Exercise risk control responsibility for Credit Risk for CIB Americas portfolio
  • Ensure risk capabilities are objective, consistent and compliant with appropriate regulations
  • Ensure that material risk exposures and related issues are reported to the responsible governance committees and to Group and business-level committees as appropriate
  • Ensure appropriate judgement is applied in the discharge of risk authorities assigned to the job holder, taking account of concentration risk across sectors, geographies and markets.
  • Maintain a good understanding of the requirements of key external stakeholders in respect of risk management and ensure there are well understood internally and reflected in internal procedures
  • Ensure first line process owners understand and accept their risk management responsibilities
  • Maintain an open and co-operative relationship in any dealings with regulators

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures.
  • Undertake regular customer visits to better understand the business environment.
  • Mentor International graduates that rotate through the Risk function.
  • Special projects and activities as requested by SCO or CCO.

  • Credit Risk Management

Qualifications

  • 7 years of relevant experience
  • Market knowledge: experience at the highest level in the banking industry
  • Experience / knowledge of trade finance products and structuring
  • Business strategy and model: sharp business acumen (including ability to assess risk and appropriate levels of return),excellent interpersonal skills and multi-cultural awakened and sensitivity.
  • Risk management and control: ability to manage risk in geographically dispersed and highly varied product base. Expertise in process design and control.
  • Regulatory framework and requirement: awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the firmoperates and the regulatory requirements
  • Non-technical skills: strong inter-personal skills to manage both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Languages; English.
  • Banking training
  • Role specific training which are mandatory and developmental
    • Risk management framework
    • Core credit curriculum
  • Other training as deemed mandatory by the bank and updated on a periodic basis.

What we offer

Expected annual base pay range for the role is 143,000 USD to 190,000 USD. The final offer will be determined on an individualised basis using a number of variables, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and education, internal relativity, and specific work location. At Standard Chartered Bank, Base pay is only part of the total compensation package.
