Job Summary

The University of Michigan Center for Occupational Health and Safety Engineering (COHSE) is seeking to recruit an outstanding post-doctoral fellow under the mentorship of faculty conducting cutting-edge cross-disciplinary research in occupational health sciences.  Our ongoing research is extensive and spans exposure and risk sciences, occupational and environmental epidemiology, ergonomics and safety, and occupational health nursing (see https://cohse.umich.edu/research-faculty/research/)

This position is supported by a T42 training grant funded by the National Institute of Occupational Health Sciences. The grant supports the University of Michigan Center for Occupational Health and Safety Engineering, which has the mission of serving the region, nation, and world as a center of excellence for research and graduate education in occupational health and safety (OHS). Since inception in 1982, COHSE has supported comprehensive graduate-level educational programs to aspiring practitioners and researchers in Industrial Hygiene (IH), Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology (OEE), Occupational Health Nursing (OHN), and Occupational Safety Engineering and Ergonomics (OSE) to help meet the nation's needs for qualified practitioners and researchers. Our academic programs span the School of Public Health, the College of Engineering, and the School of Nursing. This position is for a one year term. A second year is possible with sufficient progress shown and availability of funding.  

The successful candidate will be encouraged to identify a mentoring team; participate in ongoing research; independently come up with research ideas that align or complement the mission of the Center; conduct laboratory, field, or secondary research; compose scientific manuscripts and conference presentations; and most importantly, become a productive member of the scientific community. 

Responsibilities*

The research fellow will work under the mentorship of a faculty member or faculty team at the Center for Occupational Health and Safety Engineering (COHSE). With the goal of becoming an independent researcher, research fellow will: 

-Design and Conduct research related to occupational health and safety.

-Conduct analyses of occupational health data.

-Prepare, compile, and analyze statistical data. 

-Prepare manuscripts and research grants.

-Participate in professional development opportunities, including organizing the annual Research Symposium in Occupational Health and Safety held at the University of Michigan or one of our collaborating universities.

-Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with other researchers. 

Fellow's research will by proposed by the fellow, and potential applicants should view the training program faculty and contact those whose research is of interest in order to identify and get the support of an appropriate mentor. Areas of interest include: exposure and risk science, occupational and environmental epidemiology, ergonomics and safety, and occupational health nursing. 

Required Qualifications*

-Required qualification includes a PhD from an accredited domestic or foreign institution at the time of appointment.

-Be a US citizen, a noncitizen national of the United States (e.g., born in outlying possessions of the USA), or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the USA (e.g., possess a current Permanent Resident card).

Desired Qualifications*

-Training, experience and research interests in occupational health and safety.

-Publications and conference presentations.

-Excellent communication skills.
