Job Summary

The University of Michigan seeks a dynamic and innovative professor to join our faculty with a joint appointment in the Departments of Mathematics and Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics. This position offers a unique opportunity to bridge these two disciplines through teaching and research.

**Key Responsibilities:**

Teaching

- Develop graduate courses in mathematics and bioinformatics
- Mentor students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including supervising research projects and theses
- Contribute to curriculum development in both departments
- Maintain office hours to provide academic support and guidance to students

Research

- Conduct cutting-edge research at the intersection of mathematics and bioinformatics
- Develop algorithms and mathematical models for analyzing biological data
- Secure external funding through research grants and contracts
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines on interdisciplinary research projects

Service

- Participate in departmental and university committees
- Contribute to the academic community through peer review and professional organizations
- Engage in outreach activities to promote mathematics and bioinformatics

Qualifications:

- PhD in Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field
- Strong background in both mathematics and computational biology
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level
- Proven track record of research and publications in mathematics and bioinformatics
- Experience in securing research funding
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desired Skills

- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB
- Expertise in areas such as statistical modeling, machine learning, or data analytics applied to biological systems
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration
