Job Description:
Join the company as Montgomery’s Principal Engineer and Safety Specialist where you will apply your technical skills, be part of a dynamic and collaborative team, and guide the site in safety, capital, and maintenance.
Must be willing to work onsite in Montgomery, AL.
This role allows the right candidate to apply engineering skills to solve complex problems utilizing knowledge of Client’s customers and markets. Plans, designs, schedules, coordinates and executes major segments of complex projects with in budget and timelines. Conducts feasibility studies, determines manpower and cost estimates, and develops engineering criteria. In addition, this position will perform work in the areas of environmental, health and safety to achieve compliance with the organization’s EH&S standards and federal and state regulatory requirements. Participates in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of programs, systems and procedures necessary to ensure the overall safety and health of employees and the community. Monitors and eliminates chemical, physical and biological hazards and diseases that could be present in the work area. Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards or uncomfortable conditions in the workplace. Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment, to minimize potential hazards. Assists in developing / delivering employee training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance programs. Provides safety performance measures. Conducts root cause analyses.
This position is a key member of the staff reporting to the Plant Manager and operates with a high level of autonomy and initiative. The right candidate has the professional competence to manage one or more engineering projects concurrently, with emphasis on in-depth technical contribution. May guide or train lower level engineers, maintenance technician, and employees. Actively participates in project planning by demonstrating knowledge of project management tools and techniques on cross-functional teams.
In this role, the incumbent will ensure compliance with ISO-9001, maintain instrument calibrations, investigate quality complaints, and periodically verify operator competency with respect to laboratory procedures. The incumbent will be the main point of contact with the Corporate Quality Assurance group and responsible for ensuring compliance with the Corporate Quality policies and procedures.

What You Will Do:
- Coordinate with corporate engineering in establishing and installing capital budget programs. Manage and oversee the plant’s capital portfolio and lead projects to successful completion including but not limited to design, functional specifications, contracted work, and spend in accordance with budget.
- Coordinate and guide the maintenance program at the site including PM’s, contractor work, reliability strategies and asset management in line with company and ASNI/API standards.
- Train and motivate a highly competent, flexible, and efficient work force to meet plant needs in a safe manner, strongly promoting employee involvement including but not limited to safety programs, operator-machine interactions, and level 1 operator maintenance tasks.
- Provide guidance & technical expertise to plant employees ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Coordinate Health, Environmental and Safety programs to ensure training is timely and effective; incident investigations are timely and complete; audits are regularly scheduled and observations resolved. Represents the plant in health and safety audit reviews conducted by third parties ensuring regulatory compliance; communicate new regulations, trends in audit findings, corrective actions, & observed best practices.
- Coordinate plant safety and equipment inspections, emergency response equipment, mobile equipment, fall protection harnesses, medical equipment, etc. Assist with the timely investigation of incidents; identification of root cause and timely correction.
- Protect the customer by actively assisting with ISO9001 support, quality investigations as needed, and ensure the integrity of the calibration program in line with PM’s and metrology requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, consistently produce high quality work
- Work cross functionally & work independently with minimal supervision.
- Balance multiple priorities and deadlines and work non-standard hours when needed.
- Strong working knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations, safe operating practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 5 years’ directly related engineering experience.
- No immigration sponsorship available for this position.
- Two+ years experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
- Relevant training / experience with safety/health and quality systems in manufacturing environment.
- Ability to vary schedule to support all 3 shifts.
- Good working knowledge of OSHA.
- Demonstrated verbal & written communication skills; demonstrated leadership & training skills.
- Solid working knowledge with computers including Microsoft applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in an engineering discipline.
- 1 year experience with TPM.
- Demonstrated knowledge of project management tools and techniques on cross functional teams.
- Solid working knowledge of applicable government environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated competence in the management of one or more engineering project concurrently, with emphasis on in-depth technical contribution.Current with technology in his/her discipline.
- Experience developing and delivering training programs.
- Experience managing audits.
- The preferred candidate will have a strong demonstrated passion for safety and quality, a willingness to learn and be developed in a chemical manufacturing environment.
