The Borough of Gettysburg is conducting a civil service process for the hiring of full-time police patrol officers and/or police cadets. The department has two (2) opening currently with the possibility of a third by the end of the year.

The Borough of Gettysburg, located in Adams County, Pa has Just short of 8000 residents. The Borough is home to Gettysburg College, a nationally recognized institution of higher education with an approximate student body size of 2700 students. The United Lutheran Seminary formerly the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg also calls the Borough home.

In the summer of 1863 forces of both the Union and Confederate Armies converged on Gettysburg for arguably the most important and influential battle of The United States Civil war. Today, Gettysburg is now a thriving tourist destination drawing more than two million visitors a year.

The Gettysburg Police Department is the busiest department dispatched by the county emergency services dispatch center. The department currently has a full-time sworn compliment of 14 with a number of part-time officers to supplement. The department has a number of specialties which full-time officers can pursue including, bike patrol, criminal investigations, crime scene processing, accident investigation, crowd management and mounted patrol, just to name a few.

Please note there are two consent forms in this packet for the Physical Fitness Test. One is for Gettysburg Borough and one is for the testing agency, HACC. Both must be filled out by a doctor before returning this application packet.

Applicants shall possess a diploma from an accredited high school, or a graduate equivalency diploma. In addition, every applicant must be a United States citizen, be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer and possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license

The essential functions of a police officer are included in the application packet. Other mandatory components of the test are, a medical examination, and a psychological examination
