Responsibilities*
- This position will primarily focus on supporting the Infusion department but may be asked to support other areas within the building as needed.
- As a Medical Assistant in our Infusion Department, you will help provide our patients a soothing and caring environment for infusion services. Infusion is the administration of fluids, including medication, through the vein and into the bloodstream by intravenous means, which allows us to provide treatment to our patients suffering from cancer, rheumatoid and gastrointestinal diseases and/or other disorders.
- In The Infusion Center and other specialized departments, you will master the ability to obtain vital signs, height and weight to help calculate drug dosages accurately. In addition to these skills and the abilities you already possess as a Medical Assistant, you may be responsible for: ensuring patients are efficiently moving through examination, consultation and treatment rooms; preparing, cleaning, and stocking patient and procedure rooms; obtaining and updating medication lists along with medical and surgical histories; performing EKGs, pulse oximeters, and glucometers; tracking external labs; and administrative tasks such as calling patients for inside and outside facilities, entering notes into MiChart, and faxing, copying, printing and scanning patient records.
Required Qualifications*
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and 0-1 years of experience.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
- Communicates effectively.
- Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
Desired Qualifications*
- Certification as a Medical Assistant.
- Experience working within a large, complex health care setting, preferably in cancer care.
- Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
Work Schedule
This is a temporary position. Hours are 7:00am - 7:30pm Monday through Friday and variable shifts on Saturdays. Shift will be determined upon hire.

Physical Requirements
You will be required to do some moderate standing and walking, as well as lift, position, push, and/or transfer patients.
