National Grid is seeking a Lead Designer for our team in Northborough, MA.

Job Purpose

The role holder is required to perform specialist electrical secondary (wiring) and primary design work to support the construction and successful completion of network/operational/ projects as part of the wider National Grid portfolio. At the higher levels the role holder will take on more complex aspects of the design project as well as translating functional policy into working processes that will drive greater efficiencies for the project and the wider National Grid. Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee and check work performed by other designers for quality and precision.
  • Mentor, guide and train less experienced designers to work with Engineers and undertake specific tasks of varying complexity to support colleagues in other departments in the design of technical solutions.
  • Independently collate and analyze design data using pre-determined tools, methods and formats to support the project or department's decision-making process.
  • Monitor, oversee and/or assess engineering and design working practices to ensure they are compliant with relevant regulations and revise standards as a result.
  • Develop and review material requirements, engineering design, associated drawings, and standards as required for successful completion of assigned projects.
  • Evaluate the application and use of materials and new technologies to look for time saving and other efficiency savings on the designated project.
  • Strong technical proficiency with relay protection, control and integration scope document analysis. Review and approve vendor-based trade prints to create design drawings to National Grid standards.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of tools and systems within designated area.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Associate's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, plus a minimum of 10 years' related engineering and/or design experience is preferred.
  • Strongworking knowledge of Bentley MicroStation or AutoCAD, the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related guidelines related to engineering, design and operation.
  • Familiarity with Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) guidelines.
  • Attention to Detail: Reviews accuracy of own work/designs and checks that all details are completed to specification and can be used by others.

Salary: $116,000 - $136,000 a year

Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
