NJM Insurance has a law clerk (summer internship) opportunity available in our Workers’ Compensation Claims Legal Department. This is a great opportunity for a law student to observe and assist the in-house attorneys with litigation of workers’ compensation claims.
The law clerk will gain work experience while performing meaningful tasks and projects. This summer internship is part of a structured program that will provide the law clerk with challenging work assignments/projects, an overall view of the business, and networking opportunities.
Responsibilities
Prepare summaries of new case law.
Conduct legal research, proofread & cite check legal briefs and prepare legal memos as needed.
Review other motions for preparation of answers under staff attorney supervision.
Prepare medical timelines under staff attorney supervision.
Assist Staff Attorneys in taking witness statements and conducting interviews.
Assist/shadow paralegals to prepare cases for court.
Shadow staff attorneys for virtual and/or in-person court appearances.
Shadow claims resolution specialists to learn about the claims life cycle.
Review, summarize and prepare draft interrogatory answers under staff attorney supervision.
Assist Legal Management with data clean up and perform data analysis as needed.
Requirements
2L Law Student – preferably a student with an interest in joining an in-house legal department
Interest in labor, workers’ compensation and/or personal injury law.
Strong writing, research, and communication skills. Detail-oriented.
Experience on their school’s law review or law journal is preferred.
If possible, writing sample is requested.
Cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher
