Job Description:
Microbiology Lab Technician
On-site in Brandford, CT
$23/hour
3-month contract opportunity
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute a variety of microbiological methods to generate customer data.
- Perform hands on or machine-assisted sample preparation including dissections, filtration, and centrifugation.
- Run manual or semi-automated diagnostic methods including but not limited to plates and PCR-based assays.
- Maintain sample integrity and traceability to enable multiple diagnostic tests per sample, and banking or shipping externally for downstream analysis (sequencing, serotyping).
- Troubleshoot and escalate challenges encountered in day-to-day operations.
- Assist with verification and validation studies of new assays or instrumentation, supporting new product development and matrix extensions.
- Thoroughly follow established SOPs and maintain a records for traceability.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to improve lab efficiency, quality, and customer value.
Education/Experience
- BS in microbiology, molecular biology or related field
- Two (2) years of laboratory experience, including as part of undergraduate research
Key Skills
- Hands-on experience in microbiology and/or molecular biology.
- Training and experience handling pathogenic bacteria in a biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) environment is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn a variety of protocols. Self-motivated to learn new tools and technologies.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with personnel at all levels.
- Attention to detail.
