ABOUT THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Fiscal Director, under the direct supervision of the Project Manager for Energy and Sustainability, this Energy and Sustainability Analyst provides analytic and program support for energy efficiency and sustainability projects in City facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties of the Energy and Sustainability Analyst include managing municipal energy and greenhouse gas emissions data, in support of advancing energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction and sustainability in DPW-managed facilities and operations and across City departments. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Data management and analysis – Oversee the tracking and analysis of municipal energy performance and greenhouse gas emissions reductions over a variety of platforms for both internal and external customers, including the development of enhanced tools. These include MassEnergyInsight, EnergyStar Portfolio Manager, municipal GHG tool and others.
- Responsible for various annual reports, e.g., DOER’s Green Communities report, Cambridge’s Building Energy Use Disclosure Ordinance report and others.
- Work closely with the Public Buildings division, facility, and fleet managers to maintain high-performing municipal facilities through ongoing monitoring of energy trends and energy management.
- Work closely with the Capital Buildings Projects and other facility improvement teams to identify and track metrics for high performance buildings
- Assist with coordination and oversight of energy efficiency, Clean Fleet and other sustainability projects
- Assist with project planning and implementation through grant writing and grant administration.
- New initiative development - Research best practices in energy management and sustainability and collaborate with facility managers and City workgroups to implement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two years of related professional experience or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Technical experience should include strong data and analytic skills preferably as they apply to energy efficiency, facility management and renewable energy technology, policy and programs.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people, coordinate projects, and achieve consensus. Excellent organizational, communication, computer, writing and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and take initiative a must.
- The successful candidate should have in-depth understanding of issues related to climate change and energy including direct experience in energy efficiency and sustainability project implementation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, WORKING CONDITIONS, WORK FLEXIBILITY AND ACCOMODATIONS:
- Work involves frequent site visits, driving, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and stretching
- Work indoors is in a professional office setting.
- Ability to travel to meetings within the City.
- This position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City’s new Telework Policy, depending on operational needs.
