Job Description:
Apex Systems is looking to hire a FULLY ONSITE Design Engineer for our client based out of Greensboro, NC.This assignment is anticipated to be a 12 month contract with strong potential for extension; however, Apex Systems cannot guarantee the length of this assignment.
This will also have a first shift Monday-Friday schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that CAD data is complete and satisfactory for prototyping and manufacturing components through different processes.
- Designing armatures.
- Prepare CAD models and drawing packages for RFQ.
- Contact suppliers for quoting prototypes etc., when necessary.
- Work cross-functionally internally and externally with the Design Studio.
- Assist in the planning of events and prototype modeling activities.
- Assist in building a cooperating network between the Design Studio and Engineering.
- Identify and propose solutions for conflicts between feature requirements and technical feasibility.
- Confirm with the project team that technical parameters are worked into the design.
- Create and update design layouts, reference data according to engineering structures.
- Support the development and construction of 3D models with respect to dimensional and technical constraints and model build in general including design of various physical properties, clay/foam, armatures, ergonomic bucks, etc.
- Communicate between Product Design and Cab Engineering, concepts, ideas, and requests to the Product Design team for evaluation and feedback.
- Actively participate and represent Product Design as the department engineering authority in cross-functional teams in all studio activities related to the projects.
- To project product designs interests when communicating with engineering and suppliers.
- Introduce new technical solutions.
- Give technical specifications for designers and technical surfacers.
- Create various technical specifications to direct design work (sketching, clay modeling and 3D data).
- Well-versed in materials sciences, tooling methods, and manufacturing processes
- Minimum 5yrs experience within engineering and dealing with components.
- Must be competent in Catia V5 (minimum 10,000hrs), with Creo knowledge being an asset.
- Experience and ability to “own” given tasks and proactively move forward in a clearly defined plan of execution.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and visually with the ability to propose engineering design solutions in support of the Design team.
- Teamwork: Building cooperation among individuals and departments, sharing information and resources, and working to achieve group goals and outcomes.
- Strong communication skills: Listen effectively, transmit information accurately and understandably, and actively seek feedback from experienced engineers, project manager, etc.
- Dependability/Reliability: Follow through on commitments, timely delivery on projects, assigned tasks, etc.
- Flexibility: Willing to perform a wide range of tasks, positive response to changes in direction and priorities, and acceptance of new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word etc.)
- Must be a motivated and energized self-starter being able to work alone and in teams while working on many different tasks and with limited direction.
- This position is a very physical hands-on position where you may be on your feet most of the day. You must be able to lift ~45lbs, and ascend/descend ladders/stairs etc.
