Job Description:
This position has oversight for the Operational Database Team responsible for maintaining relational databases. As a Database Operations Manager, you will lead your team to ensure database stability and integrity by securely and effectively monitoring, maintaining, and designing databases systems. This position will also be responsible for creating and periodically reviewing disaster recovery plans, as well as overseeing the installation and testing of new software for impact on databases, upgrading of database servers as needed, and ensuring database backups are performed to prevent data loss as defined by Server Level Agreements.
- Provide guidance and oversight to the Database Operations Team for day-to-day operational activities.
- Create and enforce procedures for the Database Operations Team to include troubleshooting, root cause analysis, problem resolution, research, isolation, follow-up, on-call rotation, and documentation.
- Perform functional and empirical analysis related to the planning and configuration of database servers.
- Design and prepare reports on database server scalability and capacity planning as needed.
- Manage the installation of new database servers and enforce measures to control software licensing costs.
- Document and maintain database disaster recovery procedures to ensure continuous availability and speedy recovery.
- Assist Regulatory Compliance with audits to ensure data policies are enforced.
- Ensure that databases are backed-up, secured, and protected in accordance with the appropriate Service Level Agreements and data retention policies.
- Update database systems with new software versions as appropriate. Ensure security patches are applied in a timely manner.
- Create and maintain documentation necessary for the Database Operations Team to perform effectively and efficiently.
- Coach and mentor team members. Provide performance feedback as appropriate.
- Perform HR tasks for 5+ employees to include hiring and onboarding new team members, schedule and track PTO for team members, handle disciplinary issues, and write end of year performance reviews.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Bachelors degree in a computer science discipline or a comparable level of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT Database Operations Management.
- Must have a working knowledge of relational database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and Oracle. Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must have good communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain any necessary certifications and/or licenses.
