Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems is seeking an experienced Communications Director to lead the communications strategy for the Strategic Deterrent Systems Division. This individual will report to the Defense Systems Sector Director of Communications and will play a key role in enhancing our reputation as a leader in deterrence. The role can be based in Roy, UT or Falls Church, VA.
As the primary communications advisor to division leadership, you will be responsible for developing and executing communications strategies that drive performance, reputation, and engagement. This role requires a strategic thinker who can lead and inspire a team of communications professionals, manage high-impact initiatives, and help shape executive thought leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and lead communications strategy: Partner with communications and functional leadership to create effective internal and external communications strategies that align with the division's objectives and support broader enterprise goals.
• Content creation and editorial management: Oversee the development and execution of content that supports division, sector, and enterprise priorities, ensuring alignment with business goals.
• Executive thought leadership: Lead the strategy and execution of initiatives that shape and amplify executive thought leadership, both internally and externally.
• Team leadership and development: Manage a team of communications professionals, providing mentorship and guidance to ensure their professional growth and success. Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
• Communications measurement: Lead the development and implementation of communications measurement tools and best practices to evaluate the effectiveness of communications strategies.
• Stakeholder engagement: Build and maintain strong working relationships with functional and business leaders, as well as key external stakeholders, to ensure alignment and support for communications initiatives.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, marketing, or a related field, with 10+ years of experience in communications, media, marketing, or public relations OR Master's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Proven experience leading integrated communications projects in support of enterprise-wide initiatives and growth priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to identify emerging issues, consult with stakeholders, and propose effective solutions with minimal direction.
• Experience managing geographically dispersed, cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
• Expertise in strategic communications planning, including setting measurable objectives and KPIs.
• Proven ability to build productive working relationships with senior leaders, including executives and customers.
• Familiarity with communications measurement tools and best practices.
• Strong judgment and ability to remain agile in a fast-moving environment with rapidly shifting priorities.
• Experience managing communications budgets and resources effectively.
• Proficient in Associated Press Style
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance. U.S. Citizenship is a prerequisite.
• Ability to travel domestically up to 25%, as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Excellent collaboration and presentation skills as well as the ability to effectively interface with and influence all levels of management.
• Experience in technology, aerospace, defense or other science-related business or government field
• Ability to manage projects on budget and on schedule
• Active DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
Salary Range: $149,700 - $259,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
