Job Summary

To work as part of a team to assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical pharmacy services in Solid Organ Transplant in both the inpatient and outpatient setting; to ensure and promote the safe, rational, efficacious and cost-effective use of drug therapy; to provide leadership for Solid Organ Transplant services including developing guidelines and policies, staff training activities, developing quality improvement processes, and to assist in the clinical training of staff, residents and students. 

This will be a full-time, day shift (rotating weekends) position.  This position is designed with a focus on abdominal organ transplant with split inpatient and outpatient responsibilities for kidney and liver transplant patients.  Additionally, this solid organ transplant pharmacist will cover inpatient lung transplant/pulmonary medicine patients up to ~25% of the time, with additional potential for cross coverage in outpatient lung transplant.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical pharmacy practices consistent with the Health Systems needs and objectives.
  • Provide pharmaceutical care by: active participation in multidisciplinary rounds; designing, implementing and monitoring patient-specific pharmacotherapy, including pharmacokinetic support, nutrition support and anticoagulation management; and documenting pharmaceutical care activities.
  • Assist in the development of staff educational and training programs within and relating to the solid organ transplant service line.
  • Actively participate in the training of staff, residents, and students from the College of Pharmacy.
  • Lead drug use projects, cost reduction/management initiatives, and quality improvement activities consistent with the Health Systems needs and objectives.
  • Individual or collaborative scholarly/research activity is encouraged.
  • Provide drug information and education to patients and caregivers.
  • Participate in UMHS committee(s) related to the care of solid organ transplant patients.
  • Local and National Professional Organization Involvement is encouraged.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Doctor of Pharmacy degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
  • A certificate of completion from a specialty residency in solid organ transplant, fellowship, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is necessary.
  • Experience in clinical pharmacy practice is necessary.
  • Licensure as a Pharmacist by the State of Michigan is necessary.
  • Possession of a state controlled substance license is necessary.

Desired Qualifications*

 Solid Organ Transplantation Pharmacy Specialty Certification (BCTXP). Ability to perform a variety of manual dexterity movements, including keyboarding and IV preparation, actively participating in codes. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
