The role:

Join ODOT’s Office of Innovative Funding (OIF) team who is addressing critical funding challenges that are essential for maintaining and modernizing Oregon’s transportation infrastructure. As the state faces significant budget shortfalls — driven by factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the rise of fuel-efficient and electric vehicles, and increasing maintenance demands — ODOT is seeking an innovative, forward-thinking professional intern to join the team. In this role, you will contribute to a dynamic, collaborative effort to research, develop and implement new revenue-generating strategies that will ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of Oregon’s transportation system.

This internship is projected to start in January 2025 through June 2025 with a hybrid work option and can be full time or part time. The majority of work will be performed remotely. Occasionally, in person meetings will be held in Salem, Oregon. The posted salary/pay range for this announcement is based on full-time hours; the salary will be prorated for part-time hours.

What you will learn:

As part of the Office of Innovative Funding (OIF) team, you will put your business analysis knowledge and skills to work in supporting our efforts. Specifically, you will engage and collaborate with team members on the following activities:

  • Business Analysis

    • Develop or update project and operational documents such as processes, process maps, procedures, organizational charts, manuals, handbooks and other materials related to our current efforts.

    • Review current state of OIF onboarding and orientation, based on roles. Identify opportunities to improve and implement actions to standardize. This may include mapping our current processes, developing guidance and procedures, gathering or creating reference materials.

  • Documentation Management

    • Analyze our current state of team/project document organization and management and provide observations, opportunities for improvement and recommendations for improvement solutions.

    • Research approved solutions. Develop and execute an improvement plan which may include tasks such as, most effective use of ODOT document/file management tools; new or enhanced electronic file/document structures; guidance and instructions for team members on managing, controlling and sharing documents.

  • Communication Coordination

    • Validate and organize various team communication tools including email distribution lists, Teams channels, permissions and access management. Establish tools and protocols for managing these and keeping them current.

    • Revamp OIF’s internal website with objectives of simplifying, clarifying, updating and accurately reflecting our work and our team.

    • Analyze internal OIF communications and provide observations, opportunities for improvement, and recommendations to help keep staff well-informed as well as how to better inform ODOT about OIF.

Minimum qualifications:

  • We are accepting applications from current senior and graduate students whose field of study has an emphasis in business analysis or business analytics.

What we’d like to see:

  • Experience with business analysis methodologies or document management and control methods.

  • Experience developing procedures or other types of guidance documents.

  • Experience with tasks that required a strong attending to detail, organization and ability to balance competing priorities effectively.

  • Experience or training with Microsoft office, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word as well as virtual collaboration tools to facilitate or participate in meetings, (Microsoft Teams or Zoom).

  • Experience or training in web design with web editing programs such as SharePoint.

Additional information:

  • Effective 01/01/2025 and payable after 01/31/2025, this position will receive a 6.55% cost of living adjustment salary increase. This increase is not reflected in the salary posted on this announcement.

  • Temporary appointments may be full- or part-time and will not exceed six months or 1,040 hours.

  • We do not offer visa sponsorship. If you are hired, you will be required to fill out the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming you are able to work in the US.
