The AH Clinical Veterinarian will provide clinical veterinary support and technical leadership to the veterinary care, animal care, and study support teams. The primary responsibility for this role will be to provide excellent medical, surgical, and husbandry care for multiple species of animals housed at the facilities. The AH Clinical Veterinarian will also design, implement, and monitor animal health programs and support overall facility compliance with all regulatory guidelines (IACUC, USDA AWAR, and AAALAC/Guides). This position will provide specific technical support for research-related study execution including clinical skills and consultation for experimental design.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides state of the art veterinary medical, surgical and husbandry for all animals at the site.
- Maintains the necessary equipment, supplies, biologicals, and pharmaceuticals to ensure state of the art animal health and wellbeing.
- Leads the design, creation, and implementation of an animal health monitoring system.
- Monitors the health of animal populations; this is critical to providing the accurate assessment of study outcomes.
- Designs and implements training programs concerning the maintenance of healthy animal populations, technical animal manipulations, and general biosecurity and bio-exclusion.
- Develops and updates Standard Operating Procedures and On-the-Job training for animal and veterinary care programs.
- May be responsible for the management of veterinary and animal care teams and will direct them in medical and husbandry care of the animals.
- Supports scientists and study support teams to offer professional guidance for study design, biosecurity, and regulatory requirements (IACUC, USDA and AAALAC/Guides).
- Applies knowledge of pertinent regulations (GLP, GCP, USDA AWAR, Guides, IACUC).
- Provides expert advice for site-specific and department programs such as biosecurity, sanitation, medical equipment, preventive health programs, and animal sourcing.
Requirements
- DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school with licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the United States.
- Possess or ability to acquire licensure to practice medicine in the state of Missouri.
- Ability to acquire a veterinary DEA license.
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical veterinary experience.
- Experience working in highly regulated environment (USDA, FDA, etc.) preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
Physical Demands / Surroundings:
- Ability to work in extreme environments (hot, cold, noisy, humid, etc.) with a high priority focused on biosecurity, attention to detail, and timeliness.
- Demonstrates persistence and energy in a dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding work environment.
- Willing to work directly with animals during ante-mortem and post-mortem procedures.
Visual Demands:
- Ability to read and see clearly.
- Prescription eye wear is allowed.

Attendance / Schedule:
- Attendance requirements are based upon BI AH general attendance policies.
- Must be able to work weekends.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
