The Accounting Supervisor will serve as a key member of the accounting team reporting directly to the Accounting Manager. This role will be a key partner within the accounting team in day-to-day activities, special projects, and business process improvements with focus on ensuring timely and accurate completion of essential duties including month-end closing, variance analysis, and accurate preparation of financial results.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and own the monthly general ledger close process in compliance with established deadlines
- Serve as a key contact for inquiries regarding the general ledger
- Ensure proper accounting policies and principles are followed in accordance with NAIC statutory accounting policies
- Ensure transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed, and supported in accordance with company policies, and NAIC statutory accounting policies
- Partner with Finance Business Process Unit to reconcile and/or review general ledger accounts, roll-forward schedules, and investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner
- Partner with FP&A to determine intercompany allocation of expenses
- Contribute to the monthly close process inclusive of allocations, journal entry postings, etc.
- Assist in annual audit with external auditors
- Ensure compliance of internal controls over financial reporting as related to Model Audit Rule
- Perform ad-hoc projects and analysis
- Support company-wide strategic initiatives
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred; Master’s Degree, CPCU or CPA a plus
- 5 + years of accounting or related experience
- 2 + years of supervisory responsibilities
- Previous experience in the Property/Casualty insurance industry preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point)
- Ability to cultivate innovation
