VP of Enterprise Architecture

The VP of Enterprise Architecture is responsible for defining and operationalizing a comprehensive technology governance framework, establishing robust architectural standards, and crafting a clear technology roadmap that ensures long-term scalability and adaptability. This executive leader will drive the modernization, rationalization, and simplification of a complex legacy technology ecosystem into a modern, cloud-based, and API-driven architecture. Additionally, the VP of Enterprise Architecture will champion the exploration, rapid prototyping, and development of new and emerging technologies-particularly AI-driven solutions-to accelerate the organization's innovation agenda, including hyper-local news, information, and advertising services, as well as local search capabilities. Working closely with IT and business leaders, this role will guide the digital transformation journey, foster a forward-looking and experimentation-friendly culture, and deliver future-ready technology that underpins the company's strategic objectives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role will lead a small team of Enterprise Architects to oversee cross-functional architecture initiatives, mentor IT teams, and influence senior leaders across the organization.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Technology Governance & Standards: Define and maintain a robust technology governance framework that ensures alignment with enterprise goals, enforces architectural standards, and delivers on an integrated technology roadmap. Lead an Architecture Review Board to ensure adherence to best practices, compliance standards, and architectural consistency across the portfolio.
2. Modernization, Rationalization & Simplification of Legacy Ecosystem: Architect and implement a scalable, modern technology stack-leveraging cloud platforms, microservices, and containerization-to reduce technical debt, improve performance, and simplify the infrastructure. Develop and execute a roadmap for re-platforming or sunsetting legacy systems (C#, C++, VB6, client-server architectures) and integrating them into a cohesive, flexible, and future-ready environment.
3. Exploration & Rapid Innovation of New AI-Based Products: Identify and rapidly prototype next-generation solutions, with a focus on AI-driven offerings (such as hyper-local news, advanced local search, and context-aware advertising services) to enhance customer engagement and drive revenue growth. Establish an innovation and incubation function to validate emerging technologies, patterns, and tools, accelerating time-to-market for new digital products and services.
4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with business and technology leaders to prioritize architectural improvements, ensure strategic alignment, and collaboratively define a forward-looking technology investment plan.
5. Technical Strategy: Communicate technical strategies, progress updates, and emerging risks effectively to C-suite executives and non-technical stakeholders.
6. Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Coach and mentor IT teams in modern development frameworks, DevOps practices, and AI/ML integration, fostering a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and innovation.
7. Hands-On Technical Leadership: Provide hands-on solution design and development support when necessary, ensuring that architectural decisions are practical, scalable, and lead to tangible results.
8. Operational Continuity & Risk Management: Develop strategies to maintain operational continuity during large-scale transformation initiatives, mitigating risk and minimizing service disruptions.
9. Measurement & Reporting: Regularly present architecture transformation metrics, modernization milestones, and innovation outcomes to executive leadership, ensuring transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Required Skills/Abilities:
Enterprise Architecture & Transformation Expertise: Proven track record in establishing technology governance, setting architectural standards, and driving large-scale modernization initiatives, including cloud adoption, microservices, and API-led integration.

AI & Emerging Technology Proficiency: Experience guiding organizations through the exploration and adoption of advanced technologies, especially AI/ML-based solutions and associated data platforms.

o Front-End: React.js, Angular, Vue.js
o Back-End: Node.js, Java/Spring Boot, .NET Core
o Databases: SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL), NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra), Cloud Databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database)

Familiarity with legacy technologies (C#, C++, VB6) and re-architecting client-server applications into modern, modular solutions.

Communication & Leadership: Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical concepts, influence at all organizational levels, and guide decision-making through clear communication and strategic vision.

Team Development: Demonstrated experience in mentoring diverse IT teams, promoting cross-functional collaboration, and nurturing a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
