Full Job Description

The Department of Architecture at the University of Washington invites nominations and applications for an appointment as Lecturerto teach design studio and representation courses. The appointed candidate will teach required foundational design studios and representation and digital modeling courses for our undergraduate and graduate students during the fall, winter, and spring quarters. Assigned courses may includeARCH 301, ARCH 380, and ARCH 500among others. The position will include opportunities to help shape these courses as we evolve our curriculum to serve expanding audiences including non-majors interested in design, while providing the foundation neededfor architecture majors to succeed within the program.

Our Department resides in the College of Built Environments, which also includes the Departments of Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Real Estate and Urban Design and Planning. Responsibilities & Terms

Faculty are to be on campus during the academic year to teach courses, mentor students, and engage in service including advising students, supporting student organizations, and serving on departmental and college committees. Selected candidates will be assigned both required and elective courses that may include design studios, lecture, seminar courses, and the coordination of multi-section courses along with recruiting and securing part-time instructors.

This is a 9-month (Sept 16th - June 15th), appointment renewable on an annual basis for a maximum of three years with an anticipated start date of September, 2025. This position is negotiable for between 50 and 100% of full time. The position is at the rank of Lecturer, and carries full fringe benefits. The position is not eligible for promotion or renewal beyond three years. The position will have 90% of its time dedicated to teaching and 10% dedicated to Departmental, College, and/or University service.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $7,500-$8,750 per month (at 100% of full time), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Professional degree in Architecture or Masters Degree in Architectural Design Demonstrated teaching experience in design studios
  • Expertise in design drawing and representation
  • Demonstrated experience in design
  • Demonstrated capacity to mentor emerging designers with diverse backgrounds or significant evidence of ability to do so.
  • Capacity to teach both digital modeling and freehand drawing skills
