The Stoneham, MA School Committee invites future-focused, highly qualified candidates with an educational vision to apply for the position of Superintendent of Stoneham Public Schools.
Stoneham, population 23,300, is a suburban community located nine miles north of Boston; its proximity to major highways and public transportation offers convenient access to Boston and the North Shore coastal region. Residents enjoy numerous recreational opportunities such as the 2575-acre Middlesex Fells Reservation with its miles of trails for walking, bike riding, cross-country skiing and horseback riding. The Tri-Community Greenway is a seven-mile trail that links Stoneham, Winchester and Woburn. Spot Pond allows boating and fishing, and the town has three golf courses – two municipally owned and one privately owned. There is ice skating at the Stoneham Arena (Stoneham is the hometown of Olympic medalist Nancy Kerrigan) and myriad youth recreation opportunities through the Boys and Girls Club. The Stone Zoo, the Greater Boston Stage Company and many restaurants and shops draw residents and visitors alike.
Stoneham Public Schools enjoy the support of parents and the wider community. The town recently completed a state-of-the-art High School which opened its doors to students on September 2, 2024.
The FY25 school operating budget is $35,796,978.
Stoneham has an Open Town Meeting form of government. The municipality is administered by a five- member Select Board and a Town Administrator. Its schools are overseen by a five-member elected School Committee.
Stoneham Public Schools educates 2,338 students in five facilities:
- Stoneham Early Learning Center (located in both Colonial Park School and Stoneham High School), enrollment 100
- Colonial Park Elementary School, Grades PreK-4, enrollment 228
- Robin Hood Elementary School, Grades K-4, enrollment 381
- South Elementary School, Grades K-4, enrollment 346
- Stoneham Central Middle School, Grades 5-8, enrollment 688
- The new Stoneham High School, Grades 9-12, enrollment 595
