A Brief Overview
The Senior Director of Business Operations, DTS Department, plays a crucial role in supporting not only the CIO but also the entire DTS executive team, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the DTS department. This position acts as a strategic partner to the leadership, managing key functions such as strategic planning, communications, performance management, goal setting, budget planning, and training initiatives. The Senior Director will collaborate closely with the CIO, other DTS executives, and stakeholders across the organization to drive strategic initiatives, enhance communication and collaboration, and promote a culture of excellence within the DTS organization.

What you will do

  • Strategic Planning & Execution:
  • Collaborate with the CIO and DTS executive team to develop and refine the DTS strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the hospital's overall goals.
  • Facilitate strategic planning processes, including gathering input from stakeholders, conducting research, and developing action plans.
  • Monitor progress on strategic initiatives, providing regular updates to the CIO, DTS executives, and other leadership.
  • Communications & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Manage internal and external communications for DTS Business Operations, ensuring clear and consistent messaging.
  • Develop and execute communication plans for major DTS initiatives, ensuring stakeholders are informed and engaged.
  • Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders across the hospital, including clinical leaders, administrative staff, and DTS colleagues.
  • Performance Management:
  • Develop and implement performance metrics for the DTS department, tracking progress and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Support the CIO and DTS executive team in developing and implementing talent management strategies partnering with Human Resources
  • Goal Setting & Budget Planning:
  • Collaborate with DTS leadership to establish clear and measurable goals for the department, aligning them with the strategic plan.
  • Develop and manage the DTS budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support strategic initiatives and operational needs.
  • Monitor budget performance and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Training & Development:
  • Lead the development and execution of DTS training plans, ensuring staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
  • Identify training needs and develop programs to address them, utilizing internal and external resources.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make adjustments as needed.
  • Team Management & Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team within Business Operations
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture focused on continuous improvement.
  • Special Projects:
  • Lead or participate in special projects as assigned by the CIO or DTS executive team, providing project management expertise and ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Manage cross-functional initiatives, coordinating efforts across different DTS teams and departments.
  • Conduct research and analysis on emerging technologies and industry trends, informing the CIO, DTS executives, and other leadership.
  • Regulatory and Compliance
  • Conduct job responsibilities in compliance with CHOP policies and procedures.
  • Actively support implementation of Information Security standards and requirements within the IS department and for teams.
  • Follow CMS, State and local laws, JCAHO standards and other appropriate agencies rules and regulations.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least eight (8) years Experience in Healthcare Operations or Information Systems Required
  • At least three (3) years Demonstrated experience in managing a complex portfolio of clinical and business applications and services Required
  • At least five (5) years Experience in a Healthcare environment, changes and emerging trends in Healthcare industry, and understanding of Healthcare applications, systems and processes. Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio (Required proficiency)
  • Presentations experience a must, with large and small groups. Computer skills required: Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project. (Required proficiency)
  • Extensive knowledge of the theory and practice of information management, human resources, finance, project management and hospital operations (Required proficiency)
  • Have analytical and business knowledge to determine the impact of requested changes and to thoroughly understand the reasons behind requests (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to create a high degree of trust between oneself and the various constituents and customers of IS as well as the various clinical consumers and the capability to act as the interface between these clinical/operational communities and the project teams involved in the project (Required proficiency)
  • Have analytical and business knowledge to determine the impact of requested changes and to thoroughly understand the reasons behind requests (Required proficiency)
  • A background in varied computer platforms and operating systems is required. Experience with business continuity, communications and training frameworks and tools, Electronic Health Record (EHR), cloud providers and SaaS models, VMware, etc. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Project Management Certification (PMP) - Project Management Institute (PMI) - upon hire - Preferred
