About the Laboratory

Center for Data Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3b), part of the Neurosurgery Department at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is looking for postdoctoral researcher to join the enthusiastic research team. Founded in 2016 by Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Chief of Neurosurgery, Dr. Phillip "Jay" Storm, Alexander B. Wheeler Endowed Chair in Neurosurgical Research, Dr. Adam C. Resnick, and Executive Director of Research Operations and Strategic Planning, Jena Lilly, the Center for Data Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (Db) provides personalized care for children through collaborative, data-driven science.

The postdoctoral research scientist position is available in the D3b Preclinical Research Laboratory led by Dr. Mateusz Koptyra. This position is dedicated to conducting translational research focused on pediatric brain tumors. Specifically, the project is focused on patient derived 3D tumoroid-organoid models and their utilization in precision medicine applications. The ultimate goal of this work aims to facilitate translational efforts, develop new targeted treatments and incorporate tumor modeling into the clinical workflows. The successful candidate will join a interdisciplinary team of researchers and support project strategy providing both scientific expertise and helping guide the function of the research unit. Additional engagement opportunities in projects related to biomarker discovery and development of the non-invasive monitoring tools can be also available.

The desired candidate must have a terminal Doctoral degree in cancer, molecular biology or similar. In addition, proficiency in tissue culture, cell-based assays, drug screening and high throughput sequencing is strongly desired. Interested individuals should send a cover letter, CV, and three references from past mentors/employers who can attest to their competency and skills in research.

The postdoctoral fellow will assume responsibility for a specific, on-going research project under the direction/guidance of his or her mentor. The postdoc experience will serve to extend, refine and enhance skills necessary for professional and career development, and will enable the individual to broaden his/her scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities. It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group.

Postdocs will be expected to participate in project planning, recording and interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results. Postdocs will also be expected to acquire technical, lab management, and manuscript/grant writing skills; and participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. Postdoctoral fellows also may be required to supervise junior lab members, develop new methods and protocols for research, and assist with the development of other research projects in the lab.
