A Brief Overview
Responsibilities include audiological assessment, aural rehabilitation, equipment maintenance and calibration. Additional responsibilities include teaching and research, with the assistance of a department mentor. The audiologist also participates in the ongoing development, revision, and refinement of clinical procedures and protocols.

What you will do
  • Independently assesses hearing through the use of diagnostic tests and other appropriate procedures, in compliance with guidelines set by the department and regulating agencies, with support provided by more senior staff as needed.
  • Independently interprets test findings with prompt dissemination of results using professional oral and written communication.
  • Aids physicians and other providers in the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral and central auditory disorders.
  • Counsels patients and families, as well as other professionals regarding hearing loss and options for (re)habilitation including, but not limited to hearing technology, communication options and educational services through the use of outcomes measures and referrals to appropriate service providers with support provided by more senior staff, as needed.
  • Independently develops recommendations for aural (re)habilitation in accordance with departmental protocols, with support provided by more senior staff, as needed.
  • Selects, modifies, and dispenses amplification systems, cochlear implants and other assistive devices when appropriate.
  • Develops informational materials for families and professionals when appropriate.
  • Assists the manager, supervisors, and more senior audiologists in assigned administrative duties.
  • Participates in department quality improvement projects.
  • Maintains and calibrates clinical equipment as needed.
  • Participates in development of long- and short-term department goals.
  • Assists with patient coverage plans.
  • Participates in educational and research activities.
  • Updates professional knowledge and skills by completing a minimum of 10 clock hours of continuing education during each fiscal and/or rating year
  • Participates in clinical research and continuing education activities, as requested.
Education Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Audiology Required
  • Doctorate Audiology Preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • High level of analytical skill in order to work independently to identify and plan for the resolution of problems encountered in clinical and research duties.
  • High level of skill in various audiological assessment procedures pertaining to the pediatric population.
  • Fundamental research skills including a general understanding of research methodology, design, and statistics.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Audiology License (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required and
  • Board Certification in Audiology - American Board of Audiology - within 3 months - Required or
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) - American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) - within 3 months - Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 3 months - Preferred
