Summary
This position is located at US Mint,Manufacturing Directorate - Denver - Die Manufacturing Division. As a MACHINIST (DIE MANUFACTURER), you will be proficient in all die manufacturing processes and experienced in troubleshooting and repairing machine tools, to include Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programming.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the WG-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Fabricate parts, products, and other items from blueprints, drawings, instructions, or samples.
- Prepare machine tools, including conventional and specialized, automated, and/or other non-standard equipment, to accomplish fabrication processes.
- Plan the sequence of operations for work that requires innovative set-ups, techniques, and tools.
- Plan, coordinate, and/or perform related work processes, such as heat treating and annealing.
- Troubleshoot CNC machines; Edit programs by machining a sample, checking dimensional accuracy, and making corrections through manual input or changes to the program.
- Plan and lay out work processes using shop mathematics to compute and verify dimensions.

- Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis, 5 days a week. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.

Work is performed indoors in a well-lighted and ventilated production area. The employee is exposed to shop noises, dirt, fumes, vibrations, caustic substances and conditions where extreme heat is present (furnace temperatures up to 2000 degrees F). Subject to the hazards of burns and injury when working near furnaces. Also subject to eyestrain in working with close detail in repairing and polishing hubs. Wearing of protective clothing (safety shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs) and adherence to all safety rules and regulations is required.
