Summary:
Performs a variety of administrative nursing functions for all of Nursing Services during assigned shift, in coordination with, and in the absence of, unit management. Performs functions relating to staffing, admissions, transfers, discharges and the delivery of patient care. Has the authority to take any reasonable action necessary to fulfill the responsibilities delegated to him/her within the scope prescribed in these delegations, and as defined by the VP/CNO, Nash General Hospital. As needed, provides nursing care in accordance with prescribed, delegated medical regimen and the hospital policies. Incumbents are accountable to the North Carolina Board of Nursing for practicing nursing within the scope of the North Carolina Nursing Practice Act.
Responsibilities:
- Patient Care- Ensures that appropriate care and services are available to the organization, patients, families, and staff. Participates in the delivery of Carolina Care for all patients, families, and staff through rounding on all inpatient units and procedural areas. Provides service recovery to resolve situations and reinforces/educates Carolina Care concepts to staff.
- Collaboration- Functions as a point of contact, resource and liaison for essential information for managers, directors, the Director on Call and other senior leaders. Serves as a clinical resource to staff on hospital policies and procedures
- Patient Concerns- Takes action to identify and follow up on safety concerns of patients, families and staff members.
- Occupational Health- Responsible for fit for duty and needlestick protocol on evening, nights & weekends
- House Supervision- Assist staffing office to ensure adequate clinical staffing on each shift. Takes actions to assist with identification and resolution of operational and supply chain concerns. Provides supervision and support of nursing staff in the off hours. Responds to all emergency response calls. Activates the emergency operations plan and acts as the incident commander when situation warrants. Assists in bed placement decisions when unusual circumstances warrant.

Education Requirements:
- Associate degree in Nursing from an approved school of nursing.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from a state-accredited school of professional nursing is preferred
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
- BCLS certification. Recertification required every 2 years.
- ACLS Certification. Recertification required every 2 years.
- CPI certification (must obtain within 1 year of hire). Recertification required every 2 years.
- Appointment as Notary Public
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Three (3) years of Healthcare/Medical - Nurse: Registered Nurse in clinical nursing experience
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to understand, communicate and react effectively and appropriately to the unique needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Incumbent must demonstrate clinical competence per the job’s Skills Checklist before being allowed to perform independently.
