A Brief Overview
The Electrician performs the necessary duties for building maintenance and renovations of electrical systems including: medium voltage electrical distribution systems, motor control systems, VFD's, generators, automatic transfer switches, all within a health care, research, or business occupancy within the enterprise. Schedule will be M-F 1pm - 9:30pm.

- Maintains an identifiable professional attire (uniform) at all times, including using name tags and identification cards.
- Attends mandatory session's meetings/in-services.
- Reports any incident that seems unusual deficient to immediate supervisor and/or Security.
- Corrects and/or reports unsafe, unsecured, or unclean environment to immediate supervisor and/or Environmental, Health and Safety, and Facilities Department.
- Always takes breaks away from patient and family areas.
- Keep self and work area neat and organized.
- Participates in staff meetings, committees, projects and teams in a collaborative manner.
- Is recognize as an "informed" participant by peers and completes assignments on time.
- Reviews and contributes to the attainment of departmental and institutional goals annually.
- Participates and contributes to team projects.
- Utilizes, and maintains Personal Protection Equipment.
- Participates, and contributes to team projects.
- Is responsible for preventative maintenance inspection, trouble shooting, repairing, installation, and commissioning of all electrical equipment and components listed but not limited to:
- Electrical components to motors, chillers, pumps, air handling equipment and associated wiring.
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Electrical distribution sub stations, low voltage through medium voltage. Including switching, operating, and racking out/in of breakers and components.
- Emergency generators.
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
- Electric and diesel fire pumps and fire pump controls.
- Panels and associated breakers and wiring 120 volt through 480 volts.
- Repairs to lighting & power circuitry, and associated distribution equipment, including lighting controls.
- Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) equipment and batteries.
- Install electrical equipment, circuits, panel boards, conduit and wire, for a variety of applications.
- Troubleshoot and repair small appliances and cleaning equipment.
- Fire stop penetrations and installations.
- Is responsible for the performance of the following maintenance and operational responsibilities:
- Completing and documenting work request utilizing the Facilities (CMMS) Computerized Maintenance Management System.
- Is responsible for compliance, implementation and operation of the CHOP electrical safety program, and NFPA 70 E, Standard for electrical Safety in the work place.
- Is responsible for operating knowledge of the electrical distribution systems through a validation competency exam annually.
- General maintenance duties outside of electrical core as directed and necessary within individual qualifications, for example, snow team, water intrusion response, fire safety.
- As directed work with electrical subcontractors, equipment vendors, and specialty technicians in maintenance and operation of electrical equipment and gear.
- As directed is responsible for the performance, of electrical utility interruptions in adherence with the Hospitals utility interruption process including Lock Out, Tag Out, and Energize Work permits policy.
- Is responsible for the proficient use of electrical testing equipment and tools as directed and validated through annual competency evaluation.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED - Required
- Technical Diploma in Electrical Maintenance or Building Maintenance - Required
Experience Qualifications
- At least five (5) years working experience in institutional or industrial electrical maintenance -Required
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to operate a company vehicle and/or be insured on a CHOP policy.
- Experience with CMMS software, email and windows applications.
- Installation, trouble shooting repair and operations of the following equipment: Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), Motor Control Centers (MCC's), high and medium voltage switching gear, emergency electrical distribution, gear (ATS's) and generators, transformers, fire pumps, lighting control systems, electrical mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read prints, wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, and schematic drawings.
- Working knowledge of NFPA NEC 70, specifically chapter 517 healthcare, NFPA 70E, 99, 110, and 111.
- Bending pipe, pulling wire, working with metal clad wire systems.
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License - Department of Motor Vehicles - upon hire - Required
