THE OPPORTUNITY

The Temporary Education Abroad Advisor is responsible for the management of an assigned portion of undergraduate education abroad programs sponsored by Babson College. The Advisor will deploy sound general and region-specific advising; collaborate and liaise with faculty, administrators, partner universities and affiliate organizations; and enhance services and improve operations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Program Management: Manages education abroad programs in assigned geographic regions of the world; serves as liaison with partner universities and affiliated organizations; maintains and updates participant materials for application, acceptance, registration, orientation, and evaluation specific to programs in assigned areas; coordinates application and enrollment process; and facilitates courses evaluation process and credit transfer.

Intercultural and Academic Advising: Guides students to select appropriate education abroad programs with regard to academic, personal, professional, and financial goals; reviews applications and makes acceptance decisions; provides general and program-specific orientations; advises students on entry requirements; addresses disciplinary, emotional, or physical issues with students to ensure preparedness; advises students on course planning through curriculum interpretation at Babson and education abroad programs; advises individual students experiencing cultural adjustment difficulties (e.g., homesickness, housing concerns, course expectations, etc.); addresses inquiries and requests from parents, faculty, and staff; advises students on re-entry challenges.

In collaboration with the Education Abroad team, implements a comprehensive annual plan for education abroad student recruitment; maintains accuracy of education abroad program web pages; plans and conducts information sessions and class visits; promotes education abroad at campus events (e.g., admissions, academic, and cultural events, etc.).

Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

Bachelor’s Degree required

At least 1-2 years in an educational setting (preference for higher education and education abroad/international division or academic advising experience).

Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural and international community.

Must have experience advising students and working with various constituencies (e.g., administrators, faculty, and parents).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate in a cross-cultural environment.

Ability to manage multiple caseloads across the various phases of education abroad while navigating the cyclical nature of the academic year.

Ability to embrace ideas and changes created by all community members.

Ability to work independently to solve problems; look for opportunities to take on responsibility; take thoughtful risks; and effectively act on new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.

Ability to anticipate and effectively handles change; demonstrate willingness to try new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

Must have strong computer skills including proficiency in Google Drive/Docs and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook/Calendar).

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Must be able to occasionally attend meetings and events during evening and weekend hours

Requires occasional international and domestic travel.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE

Terra Dotta Software knowledge is preferred.

Fluency in English plus a second language ability preferred.

Experience living or working abroad is a plus.
