Position Overview:
As a member of the Infrastructure Planning team, this role plays an integral part in enabling NPSG’s mission of supporting all Regional Producing Bottlers (RPBs) by maximizing System production efficiencies and market opportunities to strengthen the competitiveness of the Coca-Cola System in the United States. This position plays a vital role in: (1) Designing, Deploying, and Maintaining Network Optimization Models, (2) Developing tools and processes to assess long range production capacity and mitigation plans, (3) Preparing insights and facilitating long-range planning routines with Bottling Partners, (4) Performing analysis and business case development of capital investment and divestment opportunities.
The Director, Supply Chain Design and Optimization has extensive experience in supply chain design and optimization and can synthesize insights from complex, system-based evaluations. This role is responsible for the development and maintenance of core tools and processes that enable multi-year, strategic planning across the US Bottling System. In addition, this role will oversee multiple large-scale, complex initiatives and provides coaching and mentoring to other analysts through their project work.
These activities require strong analytical capabilities, extensive network modeling software knowledge, an ability to collaborate and manage cross-functional project teams, experience with change management best practices, demonstrated ability to mentor and develop the skillset of others, and effective communication of complex analysis to multiple levels of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a passion for problem solving and a strong curiosity as to the reasons behind outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design, deploy, and maintain a network optimization model to identify investment and divestment opportunities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the RPB / Bottler network optimization model utilized by the Infrastructure Planning Team, responsible for ongoing maintenance throughout the year
- Utilize Lyric software suite to create a model that represents a network consisting of 15 producing Bottlers, ~ 60 Production Locations, and ~ 330 distribution centers
- Conduct assessments of various capital investment and divestment opportunities across the System (e.g., plant consolidations, greenfield site analysis, capability additions, new production lines)
- Partner with other NPSG teams and RPBs to collect and analyze supply chain data such as volume forecasts, freight costs, manufacturing costs (fixed and variable), capital requirements, and production capabilities
- Ensure model input data is accurate and develop necessary sensitivity framework to account for variations in assumptions and time horizon
Ownership of multi-year capacity tools and routines
- Create long-term capacity planning tools based upon multi-year forecast projections and demonstrated production efficiencies
- Establish and execute processes to assess system capacity / capability to support multi-year growth targets
- Identify capacity gaps and make recommendations to solve
- Utilize data visualization tools to create national, regional, and Bottler views of capacity charts
- Present recommendations to the NPSG Board, other NPSG Functions, and RPB Supply Chain Teams
- Train other analysts on the use of capacity tools for project specific capacity assessment
Support the development of NPSG’s Strategic Infrastructure Plan (SIP)
- Conduct multi-year scenario modeling to identify investment and divestment opportunities across the US Bottling System
- Identify interdependencies of model outcomes, synthesize insights, and make recommendations on which opportunities to prioritize
- Collaborate with Program Management Directors to prepare draft SIP documents for review with RPBs
- Participate in SIP Roadmap sessions with each individual Bottler, act as SME in analytics processes and insights
Develop business cases in support of supply chain infrastructure strategies (project specific work)
- Utilize network optimization tools to conduct “what if” scenarios for questions such as: optimal locations for capacity and capability additions, determine optimal plant to distribution center sourcing plans, and evaluation of plant consolidations or greenfield opportunities
- Leverage insights from optimization results and cross-functional teams to develop recommendations
- Create value chains and IRR models, perform cash flow analysis, and develop business cases for capital investment justification
- Create necessary supporting documents such as RPB specific sourcing files and financials to enable project validation discussions (utilize Lyric, Tableau, Power BI, Excel, PPT)
- Present project-based findings, insights, and recommendations to various stakeholders, ranging from NPSG Board Members / Bottler Supply Chain Teams to internal project team members
Train, mentor, and coach Supply Chain Managers
- Provide strategic thought leadership to others via brainstorming of scenarios, identification of project interdependencies, best practice sharing, and output review
- Serve as Lyric SME for NPSG on projects with the highest degree of complexity, assist others with technical troubleshooting within tool
- Develop documentation and training materials as appropriate
Lead continuous improvement initiatives within NPSG
- Collaborate across NPSG on a variety of initiatives to continuously improve processes and/or tools, as well as create new capabilities to support NPSG’s mission
- Identify opportunities to leverage new software or tools that improve process efficiency around network optimization
