POSITION – Union: Corrosion Technician
NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 1
LOCATION: NY - Geneva
HOURLY RATE: $49.44 - $50.44

JOB SPECIFICATION

Duties:

  • Under general supervision performs and interprets required readings i.e. annual (test points, isolated services, casings, bonds, foreign crossings in compliance with applicable codes, standards and procedures. Also trouble shoots systems not meeting criteria, and shorted conditions.

  • Responsible for timely creation of remediation work orders and follows through with necessary departments to ensure timely completion.

  • Works closely with other utilities as needed to find mutual resolution to CP problems when other utilities (or the Company) piping is affecting CP piping by either party.

  • Performs Q.A. checks on reads performed by others

  • Trouble shoots and maintains rectifiers.

  • Maintain tools and equipment

  • Performs atmospheric inspections on bridge crossings, above ground piping or other exposed piping.

  • Understands the use of specialized equipment and tools used for cathodic protection measures.

  • Provides corrosion control related support to other departments as needed for maintenance/repair.

  • Participates in regulatory audits as needed.

  • Responds to arcing or stray voltage conditions.

  • Transmission and / or High-Pressure Distribution gas mains:

  • Performs annual CIS of scheduled piping.
  • Works with Engineering on annual testing of scheduled HCA piping.
  • Works with R.O.W. crews with follow up investigations or maintenance.

Experience, Education and special information required

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Must have High School/GED diploma

  • Should have had at least three years’ experience in gas operations. Helpful to have cathodic protection and/or have completed a formal training program and/or the ability to demonstrate these skills on an appropriate test and successful interview.

  • Must be familiar with and follow the Company's safety rules

  • Have had experience (work or education) that demonstrates good troubleshooting skills.

  • Has a demonstrated experience level with general computer software programs (i.e.- Office)

  • Have or successfully complete, NACE CP-1 within 2 years of hire date.

  • Have or successfully complete, all Operational Qualification tasks associated Cathodic Protection.

Physical and Personal Qualifications

  • Must be able to meet the general requirements for all employees as outlined in the preamble to the job specification manual.

  • Must be neat in work and apply the principles of safety and economy

  • Must be trustworthy with handling company information and possessions.

  • Must be able to travel with occasional out of town requirements

  • Must be willing to work extra and/or irregular hours

  • Must be willing to work under unusual or special working conditions

  • Must have customer service skills

  • Must be able to grasp the concepts of electrical theory.

  • Have a mathematical aptitude.

  • Ability to read Infrastructure mapping and/or electric schematics
