A Brief Overview
Able to perform the required duties to maintain all carpentry related activity within a health care and research facility, including off site occupancies. Tours the facilities, identifies, documents and repairs deficiencies. Current knowledge of applicable state, local, ADA, OSHA, EPA, Fire, Safety, Building Codes. Knowledgeable in the use of all: trade hand tools, power tools, professional shop machinery, door hardware, locks and keys. Responds to emergency situations as required by Facilities Services and Construction Management. Schedule will be Sunday - Thursday, 8:30AM - 5PM.
What you will do
- General Duties:
- Follow instructions and work independently as required.
- Complete assigned work orders and preventive work orders with-in the allotted time, with minimal supervision.
- Meet all customers in a professional and courteous manner. Identify and meet their needs.
- Building Maintenance:
- Complete assigned P.M. Work Orders within the allotted time frame.
- Tour the facilities, identify, document, repair, or replace deficiencies.
- Maintain, repair or replace as needed: all types of wall structures, fire and smoke wall partitions, plaster, metal partition, doors, rated doors, automatic doors, all door hardware including locks and keys, various ceiling systems, various floor coverings, various wall protection systems, cabinetry, all cabinet hardware, countertops, shelving, wall mounted fixtures, tables, chairs, office furniture, building exterior, roofs, gutters, flashing, windows, glass, etc.
- Enhancements/Millwork:
- Able to construct custom cabinetry, furniture, fixtures, shelving, counter tops, laminate work.
- Able to build and install finished products.
- Full working knowledge of Carpenter Shop machinery.
- Renovations/Demolition:
- Able to remove, construct, and install, as needed, all types of wall structures such as sheet rock, plaster, metal partition, wood/metal studs, as well as doors, door frames, window assemblies, floor coverings, cove base, ceiling systems, cabinetry, counter tops, and all finish carpentry (spackle, trim, etc.).
- Able to read and interpret blue prints, sketches, and written instructions.
- Able to coordinate with other trade groups, working as a team or independently as required.
- Hardware:
- Able to inspect, maintain, disassemble, repair, modify, remove, cut, key, pin, and install, as needed: locks, deadbolts, panic hardware, closures, handles, and all other hardware which involve keeping doors throughout the Hospital in working order.
- Zone Assignment:
- Routinely tour areas of responsibility document and repair all deficiencies.
- Check with customers, Maintenance Log, or Zone back-log report daily.
- Complete minor maintenance task as requested by customers or assigned including but not limited to:
- Relamping and replacement of broken lighting diffusers.
- Replace stained or missing ceiling tiles.
- Respond, and correct minor TV/VCR/game problems in patient care areas.
- Unstop minor clogs in sinks, showers, tubs, commodes, fountains, drains.
- Locate source of ceiling leaks and repair if possible.
- Maintain, tighten/repair (broken or missing hardware), (minor leaks at pipes, valves, lavatories, toilets, bathroom partitions, and accessories), (Missing or damaged faceplates on outlets and switches), (beds, cribs, stretchers, IV poles, curtain tracks, vertical blinds), (cove base, wall protection, wall bumpers, outside corner guards), (office furniture, file cabinets, chairs and desks, Hang pictures, clocks, plaques, needle/boxes and hot flies).
- Maintain and inspect Fire Smoke Partitions and Barriers.
- Inspect and maintain all mechanical spaces within the zone, assure they are not being used for storage and comply with department standards.
- Miscellaneous/Other:
- Responsible for snow removal, relocation and de-icing the campus.
- Respond to all daily emergencies that involve Carpentry related activity in the hospital.
- Able to respond to emergency situations as they arise such as water leaks, floods, and other disasters.
- Willingness to attend in-service classes, seminars, and additional education as needed to keep up with new technology and Government Codes.
- Complete all daily paper work.
- Keep shop and machinery clean and orderly on a daily basis.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED - Required
- Technical Diploma Carpentry - Required
Experience Qualifications
- At least three (3) years industrial/institutional experience - Required
- Vocational training with completion of an apprenticeship program - Required
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to operate a company vehicle and/or be insured on a CHOP policy.
- Must be able to read and interpret blue prints and sketches.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and be service and customer oriented.
- Must be able to work with all trades.
- Ability to work with all trade hand and power tools.
- Must posses Mechanical sense and aptitude.
- Must present a professional demure and attitude.
- Must possess good lateral and vertical communication skills.(verbal and written)
- Must have the ability to climb, work in close quarters, lift heavy objects, and work outside in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to be flexible enough to work different hours and shifts, to ensure that maintenance and customer needs are met.
- Ability to learn the in-house Keying and lock system.
- Knowledge of applicable state, local, ADA, OSHA, EPA, NFPA 101, fire, life, and safety codes.
- Computer literacy (Preferred proficiency)
