Full Job Description

The Department of Engineering and Computer Science at Benedict College invites applications for full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Computer Engineering beginning in Fall 2025. We are seeking individuals with strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service to the community and the College. Candidates should be able to teach a range of introductory and upper-level courses such as digital circuits, computer organization and architecture, embedded systems, software engineering, data communications and networking, operating systems, and to supervise students senior design projects. We are seeking individuals with significant design experience. Familiarity with ABET accreditation process and requirements, as well as Canvas, our Learning Management System, are desirable. Desired areas of research expertise include, but are not limited to: cyber-physical systems, Internet of things (IoT), autonomous systems and networks, wireless communication networks, wireless sensor/ad-hoc networks, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the Benedict College Mission. A doctoral degree in Computer Engineering or related field is required.

Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate strong potential as an effective instructor and student mentor, and be able to obtain funding to support an undergraduate research program. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor should have at least 3 years of experience as an effective instructor, mentor, and have an established research agenda.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY

- Teach lower and upper-level computer engineering courses, as well as general engineering courses, that align with professional expertise and the needs of the department;

- Participate in curriculum development and contribute to the departments planning and growth, including the planned launch of a MS program in 2026;

- Provide academic and career advising to students in the major;

- Establish an active undergraduate research program supported by external funding and perform regular scholarly research and publication;

- Provide service to the department, school, college, community, and profession;

- Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Ability to teach lower and upper-level undergraduate computer engineering courses;

- Knowledge in pedagogy and teaching techniques for first-time college students and students from underserved populations;

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

- Effective instructional delivery and proficiency in the use of instructional technology;

- Ability to actively engage students in the learning process;

- Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom;

- Ability to work collegially and productively within the university community;

- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
